Where is the elusive secret circle of people at State who play fighting games? Surely it exists in some form or another.
Depends on what you're trying to play. The RDU area has a big Tekken scene and a bunch of SFV players. I don't really know about people on campus that play, but Carolina Clash Rebirth runs on the first Saturday of every month just outside of Raleigh, and there's usually a ton of people there. What games do you play?
>>9727Guilty Gear, Under Night, Melty, Arcana Heart.Basically every airdasher except Babytag.I also don't have a car on campus, so I can't go on particularly long treks.
>>9728I know there's a howler who likes fighting games (at least one I guess). He's usually at the parties/may be enticed to meet up. Hopefully he's not scared of meeting people from the internet!
>>9728I could prob give you a ride to CCR each month. Our anime fighter scene is a little weak unfortunately, got a handful of Under Night players tho, and some guy drag an Arcana Heart setup out of the woodworks on occasion. If you like airdashers it looks like our UMvC3 scene is trying to revive itself, lasts couple monthlies it got a bracket. I play Melty Blood when I'm drunk and I have no idea what I'm doing but by art and music alone it's still my favorite fighting game lmao.
>>9730It doesn't matter much to me if not many people play, as long as there exists a laptop and a dream, there will always be a setup for Melty free for anyone to play. Same goes for +R. A ride every month would be pretty nice though.
>>9731Yeah if someone who knew what they were doing would actually teach me some Melty that would be hella. Once I'm back in the RDU we can meet up in Talley or some shit and shoot the shit/play Melty Blood on my laptop. You got a discord or something I could add you on?
>>9732Yasuna#1141. I wouldn't say I'm very good and I also wouldn't say I'm very good at Melty, but I at the very least don't play like it's my first time playing the game. All of my IRL friends I've played with I beat all the time, but when I play with some friends online from Canada I get destroyed. And one of them (the best one) went to EVO this year to shoot the shit with the Melty folks at Jiyuna. What he didn't know is that some of the Japanese people who came over are professional Melty players. One of them was a Sacchin that he didn't see drop a combo or do a suboptimal combo once in a rather long set. So he got his ass handed to him on a platter too. He had a good time though.
I'm a filthy casual and only play old shit (KoF, Arcana Heart, Darkstalkers, Garou) on muh PS2 and on emulators. This guy >>9730 has personally handed me my ass in Melty and SFIV. If you wanna practice combos on me that's cool. Also, if you have a PS3 or something I'd love to play P4A or the newer iterations of AH and KoF (I left mine with my little brother).btw, yes I play KoF because of all the GFD-tier ladies. I still rep my muay thai boys sometimes tho.

I play fighting games, graduated a million years ago, still live near enough to steal bricks from North campus, and Guilty Gear is my shit. (I play others but I suck at 3D.)We exist. I imagine a lot of the State people make to Carolina Clash once a month, but I've only made it out to have my ass whooped once or twice.

>>9779CCR is a fucking blast, but if you're looking for Guilty Gear, we got 4~5 people that show up to Event Horizon Games every Monday night to play/lab/improve. The Fighting Games Club on campus meets every Wednesday, but those guys only play anime fighters so I don't really show www.
>>9791Thanks for telling me. I might make it to Event Horizon sometimes. Problem is I work weird hours. As for the on-campus club, I'm not a student anymore so I dunno about showing up.Weeb games are fun though. Anything keeping you out of them other than the aesthetic?

>>9795Anime fighters are too fast for my brain and require wild execution skill for their 20+ hit combos. Just too much IMO. Event Horizon starts at 7:00 on Mondays, and you can still show to FG club even though you arent a student. On campus parking is free after 5:00.
>>9796With some of the fast stuff, the player is reacting to the absence of a fast low instead of the start-up of a fast something-else (throw, cross-up, overhead, etc). That makes weeb fighters look and feel fast to outsiders when the queue actually happened an hour before the response. You can also preemptively change from down-back to back/jump/backdash/poke between the timing of a fast low and a slower anything-else to guard against multiple possibilities without reacting at all. (Called fuzzy-guard/block/backdash/jump/abare, which is different than Tekken/VF where it means something completely different.)With GG in particular, most of the combos are like 5 hits into knockdown. If you're seeing a 20 hit combo it's usually because someone got corner and full meter and an ideal starter. Games like UNIST and BlazBlue do get pretty ridiculous from what I can tell. As far as execution, chain canceling systems remove a lot of the strict timing requirements. You might have twice as many hits and half as many links or otherwise strict inputs compared to a game like SF.Anyway thanks for the info. I'll try to drop in on both at some point but my hours are fucked.
