If you're just looking to read .pdf files, something like a deditated e-book reader might be more worthwhile
If you're looking to use it for more stuff then the sp4 looks solid

Just don't try to install linux on it or something might go wrong, though I think the kernel is getting better at supporting more touchscreen things

I've never used a tablet-computer before but I can't // I think they can be pretty useful

You should get a ebook instead. It'll have a longer battery life and won't burn your eyes out after staring at it for hours.
Also, you can convert pdfs to epub or azw3 (amazon ereader format) using the free (as in freedom) program calibre.

Be sure to not connect your ebook device to an online account, unless you enjoy being friends with the
NSA
.

thats thee problem with ebook readers and the like: minimal functionality. my current, old ipad does that job well. I want the additional features of having a semi useful full computer with me to do moar thingies. the file system for ipads is so shite, and itunes is lame too

Just use an actual laptop or desktop computer.
No need to cripple yourself with NSA+Intel+Microsoft.

These "extra features" aren't for you, they're for
them
.

i basically need to have a computer with me whenever i do homework. as a grad student i have to do stupid stuff that requires internet access in case i dont know some de broglie wavelength stuff or something. an hdd laptop sounds too unreliable to live in my backpack like my ipad does, and an ssd laptop sounds too expensive. actually i havent looked into ssd prices too much

Excuse me sir, but please do not recommend Amazon Swindle and their harmful azw ebook formats. They do not respect your freedoms.
https://stallman.org/amazon.html Ctrl-F for Swindle

If you seek alternative, consider Kobo ebook readers. They run GNU/Linux, and installation of alternative software is possible. While they still can require connecting to external services, it's possible to circumvent this feature.

sorry, I do not swing that way

You might want to look into something like in your picture. I think wearable computer glasses things would be really neat and it's a shame that they died off

Or rather, it's a shame that they did not look like the glasses in They Live, like Ray Ban Drifters would be nice glases to have computers in

it came in a few days ago. typecover hasnt arrived yet `_`...installed my fave softwares. gonna put an iso of gta 3 maybe. uninstalled the office 2016 and installed libre office. unfortunately, there was like a half second delay between right clicking and the context menu popping up. maybe it is micro$ofts way of giving me the middle finger. and then they give me the double finger by selling my data.

How is Libre? The university computers did away with Office on the VCL because it was too big of an expense to hold on to
In place they installed Libre; I don't like it much but maybe I was just expecting a Word clone. I like to draft hw in LaTeX but some classes demand a .doc[x]

libre is pretty nais. i am kind of biased cuz i never used anything past office 07 cuz i had an install disk that came with my first ever
laptop in 07, and it just made its way onto every computer i owned. one problem i have is opening microslop powerpoints that have embedded media
and the file just fails to load.

libre office calc (excel) is really good, and has most (all?) of real excels functions
the excel garbage of the modern era has some artifically added delay between the time when you press enter and when the value actually appears in the cell.
calc doesnt have that

writer (word) is good too. no real complaints.

impress (powerpoint) is probably kind of weak if you are into making contemporary looking presentations, but i dont have enough experience with it to say for sures

i kind of went open source crazy in my last year of undergrad last year and stopped using office because it is a scam for the average student.
alsos, at work last summer some people were having problems with licensing, with 2 people somehow linked to one license. allegedly, when one person opened
word, it deactivated it on the other guys computer. drm always screws over legitimate users more than real pirates.
